Libris Awards

I am being a bit cheeky really and I hope you don't mind, but I did put my book in for the Libris Awards and to my complete surprise, I made the list of finalists! So too did Ampersand Duck, with another book called Feel the Fell, and Amanda Watson-Will with her porcelain book called Self (States of Change) so congratulations to Amanda and Duck!

What was really heartening in terms of exhibiting as a group is that Tim Moseley's Codex Projects also has a book in the short list, and Codex is a group project that often results in multiple books, so clearly we should be able to exhibit as a group in this way. I can't wait for that to happen: I think the display of our books is going to be fantastic... Right, enough wiffling, I've got to get the pets off to the vet: our dog has a suspected case of mange (again; he has filthy habits!) and one of the guinea pigs may mites AND be pregnant. Help.

oooo well done all - and did I see amanda's name on that finalist list too? too good!

another friend of mine - helen malone - has a piece shortlisted too so I hope you all don't mind if I send good vibes to all four of you!

I did my ususal - dither and fiddle for so long that I missed the date (oops - that's 2 times now I've done that with the Libris) oh well

and on a completely different tack - our dog 'brimmer' has had mange a couple of times now (very attractive - nice smell too....) collected from consorting with wombats - and he was treated just as infested wombats in our area are - with Ivermectin or Cydectin (only he got to enjoy his adminstered by syringe - not a flap door..... not sure that he appreciated our desire for a positive outcome....)

hope your woof learns not to go hanging around with unsavoury sorts!

Congratulations Sara! Well done! I was meaning to email yesterday but you know how it goes...And yes Ronnie, my porcelain book was accepted too, so I'm VERY happy. I was wondering who is planning to go to the awards and conference? I know Ampersand Duck must be, seeing she's conducting one of the masterclasses! Anyone else?

Forgot to say that I am planning to go up.

THank you for your lovely comments, and Amanda, I'm really sorry I didn't put your name in the first post either! I've amended that now... By the way, when are you going up? I am contemplating it, if I can save the money, but am not sure yet if going up by train might be cheaper than flying. Not sure whether to go just for the opening event or for the whole conference. Sara x

Congratulations Sara, Amanda & Ampersand Duck - just a fabulous result. What very good company we are in. I was thinking of going up but opted for New Zealand instead. Now I'm a bit sorry - but I guess I'll be so pleased to be back in NZ that I'll get over it.

Woo-hoo! I see several familiar names in that list, including Printbank. And half a dozen other locals.
Well done to everyone. Now...who will be the winner?

And, since I live in Mackay, I'll be there at least for some of it so do hope we can get together. (I should be back from NZ in time!)

I'm so glad to hear that some of you will be at the Libris Awards. Dinahmow - I didn't realize you were a local. That's lucky! Carol - I'm sorry that you won't be there, but I'm SURE we'll get to meet up one day! Sara, I'm not totally sure what I'll attend. I'm tempted to register for a masterclass and the conference, knowing I won't have the energy to get to it all, but at least having the freedom to pick and choose. I will definitely go to at least a masterclass or the conference, not just the opening event. It's too far to go for me not to get as much as I can from it. None the less, some serious penny pinching will definitely be in order first!

I'm really chuffed, because one of my students was chosen as well (Natalie Azzopardi), and I just gave her a residency in my studio. W00T! Yes, I'm doing a 'masterclass', which is a bit scary, really, since I don't feel like I know enough to be called a 'master', just popped in a proposal to try and get up there on someone else's dollar! No, seriously, it will be lots of fun. I just noticed, as well, that I'm giving a talk, which I HADN'T been informed about! I thought they were only taking me for the workshop, but now I have double preparations!

Just be warned, if you're going up there short of funds -- if you stay at the Youth Hostel in town, try and find a like-minded group to share a room with (if you can't afford/get a solo room), as I bunked up with the local mine-working girls last time and didn't get a lot of sleep!

Congratulations all! How exciting. Are there pictures of the books that were accepted anywhere?

Sara - I read the end of your post really quickly and just saw mites and pregnant and thought she's very open. Then realised it was the guinea pig!
